The Society is an academic research organization promoting Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and is under the jurisdiction of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. It originated as a voluntary group in 1952 for the exchange of NDT technical information, to facilitate and promote reserch in this field and to apply NDT technology. In 1955 it was incorporated as "The Japanese Society for Non-Destructive Inspection," and since that time has continued to enlarge its sphere of activities. JSNDI celebrated the 50th anniversary in 2002.
